Week 84: Українською мовою розмовляємо
This week was really great!! We saw countless miracles and many uplifting moments!! I'm continually amazed by the miraculous way in which this work continues to go forward!
Напарник
Elder Wilson and I get along really great which has been a good blessing! We've been able to get so much done together in these couple weeks!! We've also had some less exciting moments in the kitchen together including some burned brownies that we lost due to neglect and forgetfulness. And very gooey pasta due to similar reasons. However we can make a mean pizza so we're not totally helpless.
Російська Мова
So now that we don't just talk with people on the street all the time we get less opportunities to hear people speaking about just normal things. We of course have abnormal practice on the phone call base. But I wanted to share a couple things I heard in Russian that you may or may not be able to appreciate!!)) Посмотрим 🙏
"Запах слышен" (the smell can be heard) yeah you hear smells here ;)
"На улице дышать ничем" (On the street there isn't anything to breathe with.) The air was bad up in another part of Ukraine.
Паска
In Ukraine on Easter everyone greets each other on the street by saying, "Христос воскрес" which means Christ is Risen
And you reply "воистину воскрес" which is like in truth He is risen. So that's cool
Людині
This week we've continued to teach Kelvin who has progressed very well! We started teaching him last week and now we've had a second lesson with him. We felt like we should talk about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He has a really strong background and a great belief in Christ! Yesterday he even was able to take part in the English worship group and he met and talked a little bit with Emmanuel, a returned missionary here in Kharkiv which was really great! We joined for part of the meeting. It was cool to have him connect and really great that he was able to meet Emmanuel! We plan to have a lesson with the both of them together this week.
We also continue to teach Alireza but haven't had a chance to ask him about his family as our 2nd lesson this week fell through. However we rescheduled and will be able to talk with him soon. He's a great brother. We've found much success in calling old contacts and quite often are able to meet with people who were once interested or at some point even had lessons with missionaries.
We finished the after baptism lessons with Dima this week! He's doing really great and has been brought into the branch family really well. He continually studies daily and wants to know well the scriptures!
Dmitry the brother of Maksim has been in and out of touch with us but he should be returning home soon to Kharkiv and here he will have a much better signal
This week we had our first lesson with someone who we found through Facebook! It was quite a miracle how it all worked out. He liked one of my posts and so I messaged him and we set up a time to meet! It turns out that he's not living in Kharkiv like his page said. But in Zaporozhe and about 7 years ago he was meeting with missionaries! He likes church and has a testimony of the Book of Mormon!! It was such a miracle that we found him. We've been in contact with the Elders there and will have a pass lesson this week!
We also had a couple first lessons with new people Alexander and Ahmed. They went alright but we didn't get to share the full lesson of the Restoration so that's our plan this week.
Spiritual Thought
I want to share a few favorite quotes from Conference!
“The thought that rescued Alma … is this: Restoring what you cannot restore, healing the wound you cannot heal, fixing that which you broke and you cannot fix is the very purpose of the atonement of Christ.” -Pres. Boyd K. Packer
"The Restoration belongs to the world, and its message is especially urgent today...Perhaps it goes without saying that despite genuine love and sincerity, many, if not most, of our invitations to share the message of the Restoration will be declined. But remember this: everyone is worthy of such an invitation—“all are alike unto God”; the Lord is pleased with every effort we make, no matter the outcome"
-Elder D. Todd Christofferson
"the Lord loves effort, because effort brings rewards that can’t come without it." -Pres. Russell M. Nelson
I hope you all find some extra time to study this special General Conference and the words of the Prophets and Apostles!
Love you all soo much!
